• World record broken for longest solar powered flight

Skeptics have forever been challenging the true efficiency of renewable energy, claiming that nothing ever gets better than fossil fuels. They’re in for a shock though, as a recent world record was broken, and has left the world looking up at the sun in awe. Built in UK, a little unmanned aircraft or an unmanned autonomous vehicle (UAV) stayed up in the skies for a whole two weeks, powered by the sun. This feat took place in July, and has recently been ratified by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI). Weighing 50kgs, the aircraft stayed up for a whole 14 days, 22 minutes and 8 seconds. That’s 11 times longer than the previously held record.

This one’s sure to give the aviation industry a push towards a greener tomorrow, and we sure hope to see a few solar powered Boeings in future!
