Here’s a rickshaw with a twist, which has recently shown up in New Delhi. Known as Soleckshaw, this delivery rickshaw shuns the use of gasoline, and opts for solar power instead. Now we’ve seen a few green rickshaws before, like the wind-powered pedal rickshaw and a different solar powered version before. Well, heres yet another solar juiced three-wheeler, launched on Friday by Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot. To be used for postal services, these Soleckshaws will first be used in Ajmer, a sunny city in the state of Rajasthan in India. The Soleckshaw was jointly developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Kinetic Motors and runs on an inexpensive solar battery.

Postmen around India usually travel around 40-50 km daily to deliver post with packages weighing a total of around 10kgs. The Soleckshaw will indeed be a savior to the postal service of India, especially in far flung regions of Rajasthan, making the lives of the “news bringers” a whole lot easier.
