• Marvin the Martian cruising catamaran powered by solar energy

  • Marvin-the-Martian.jpg
Marvin the Martian is here, and has decided to float across the seas. Well Bugs Bunny can breathe a sigh of relief, as Marvin isn’t going to be treading land anymore. This sea-faring rendition of Marvin the Martian is a 50′ solar-powered cruising catamaran. We haven’t figured out why it shares its name with a space-alien-cartoon-character yet, though that’s hardly a point to give it a cold shoulder for. Instead, we simply love this vessel that plays host to a sweet 35 sq. meters of photovoltaic panels affixed to its roof. These solar panels are sufficient to power up the vessels and satisfy all of its needs.

The boat uses electric propulsion with 30Nm autonomy at 5 kn, while the diesel propulsion can achieve a 487Nm autonomy at 9 kn. We’ve seen a few solar powered boats like the Loon and the PlanetSolar before. This one adds to the ranks of those might sea-faring solar juice drinkers.
