Driving green vehicles is certainly good for environment but buying them can leave a gaping hole in the pockets. But leasing or hiring them out is an optimum solution to this dilemma. Recently we mentioned about the world’s first affordable hydrogen car from Riversimple that can be leased out for $315 per month. And today it’s the UK’s first electric car hire scheme in news. Car club firm Streetcar is out to offer Londoners the chance to hire an all-electric version of Toyota’s popular hybrid Prius. For £6 ($10) an hour, it certainly will lure many eco-conscious folks who intend to tread the green route without shaking their budgets. The company’s 58,000 car club members would be the first people in Europe to be able to hire a car with electric technology.

Mayor Boris Johnson quotes, “Not only do electric vehicles save a large sum off fuel bills, helping businesses to remain lean in tough economic times, they are also great for London’s environment. We are now going to work hand in hand with fleet owners to accelerate the take-up of electric vehicles, which are available to buy right now.”
