To make your car more fuel efficient is one thing many car manufacturers are trying to do. Most of also would want that too because of the rising and unstable oil prices taking the fuel bill upto our neck most of the time. Plus a greener planet too! so now it seems Ford is taking the fuel efficiency to another level by using laser spark plugs which will be more fuel efficient and also easier to start in cold conditions. It was developed by scientists at Liverpool University and by engineers at Ford. The idea of using lasers in this way is not entirely new but its application has the potential to make cars more reliable – after flat batteries, poorly performing spark plugs are a major cause of breakdowns in the winter months.

So why are we now looking into spark plugs? What happened to the conventional spark plugs being used in today’s modern vehicles? Well it is because modern engines use multiple spark plugs for each cylinder in order to ignite as much fuel as possible but the laser light can be split for far greater efficiency. And moreover some of the laser light can be reflected back from the inside the cylinder to provide information on the level of ignition allowing the car to adjust the quantities of air and fuel automatically optimize the performance. Now that is intelligence combined with super efficiency.
