Sekisui Jushi Corporation (SJC) and Kyocera Solar Corporation has come up with an eco-friendly design that work just great as bus-shelters and taxi-stands. Called the Eco-Shell, this public-use shelter uses solar energy to power up and sports a bunch of photovoltaic cells on its roof. The solar module by Kyocera powers up the shelter’s lighting system that uses energy-conserving LEDs. The shelter will soon hit manufacturing lines and is now available exclusively in Japan only.

The developers of this one hope city councils to show interest as well as private firms, given that using these Eco-Shell shelters could very well reduce the strain on the Japanese power grid substantially.
