Electric cars may keep their act clean once on-road. They aren’t completely green though, and do, indirectly, stamp out a carbon footprint, especially if they’re plugged in to charge from the grid itself, which in turn is usually powered by oil and coal plants. Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy and GE Energy Industrial Solutions CEO Luis Ramírez have together set up a GE EV Solar Carport that hooks on to solar panels instead, enabling users to plug-in their electric cars and charge up with energy from the sun instead. Generating enough energy to power up 20 homes annually, this solar powered EV charging station will charge up 13 electric vehicles on a daily basis.
