With the need to keep carbon emissions away from the atmosphere, the world seems to be taking greener steps to urban transport, with bike and car sharing programs surfacing just about everywhere. Docomo has just treaded into green-transport waters recently with its plans to kick off a bike-sharing program on a trial basis in Yokohama. And given that the initiative is being taken up by Docomo, one of Japan’s largest telecommunication firms, the system will work hand-in-hand with a bunch of technology, allowing users to locate nearby facilities, book bikes and pay for them too, using their smartphones!

Docomo will also fit these bikes with GPS systems that’ll help manage the fleet better for a smoother service. For now on a trial basis, if all goes well, Docomo plans to go big with its bike sharing program.
