• China looks to solar-powered electricity-driven ferries as alternative mode of transport

China today has gridlocked streets like never before, where driving a car in heavy traffic simply means stepping on the gas pedal ever-so-slightly after long intervals of time! Instead, the Chinese are choosing to travel via waterways these days, and BMT Nigel Gee, based in Southampton, UK, will develop an eco-friendly vessel for the Chinese to sail on. Measuring about 85 feet long, 28 feet wide and capable of ferrying about 150 passengers at a time, this catamaran will use a Vanadium Redox Battery (VRB) that will juice up with a bunch of solar panels set up on the roof of the boat. The electric drive is capable of pushing this one up to 10 knots!

This ferry could get the Chinese to their destinations in a much more eco-friendly way then having a few hundred people drive to work on a daily basis!
