It’s a plane! It’s a space ship! Hell no! It’s the Centaurus II! This streamlined, weird-but-fast looking vehicle designed and developed by University of Minnesota is solar powered! And yeah, it’s as fast as it looks. The Centaurus II will compete in the 2010 American Solar Challenge. And if you haven’t heard of that before, it’s a race over 1,100-miles from Tulsa to Chicago.

This 16 feet long, 6 feet wide and three feet high space-ship on wheels weighing around 400 pounds took 30 students around 50,000 hours to piece together. It sports solar panels on its entire body for maximized performance. This, along with its carefully chiseled-out aerodynamics, guarantees high speeds and a longer performing range. The Centaurus II is sure to burn the finish line at the race.
