BMW is all set to join the electric car brigade with its own rendition of an electric car. The automobile big-shot recently unveiled its plans to build a battery-powered car and delivering it to showrooms by 2013. The German’s earlier had the Project-I in 2007, which has remained unheard of, wherein the company aimed to build a car for the urban populace. At a plant outside Munich, the company held a press conference and demonstration to prove the worthiness of electric cars. BMW has crash-tested prototypes of the chassis and frame of the electric car and will soon start construction on its carbon fiber production factory at Moses Lake, Washington.

Besides going electric in future and dumping gasoline, BMW also plan to dump the use of steel, opting for carbon fiber, a lighter and stronger substitute to build their cars instead. The electric engine to be used will also put away the use of a transmission, muffler, and exhaust. So, those clean green electric BMWs in the future won’t probably roar like they always used to, but will sure help keep the air clean.
