The SOLON, which is Berlin’s first solar-powered passenger ship, was launched by Mayor Klaus Wowereit and it sends a clear signal of supporting the expansion of climate friendly mobility in the water also. SolarWaterWorld AG is the manufacturer and operator of the ship, SOLON. They also operate the world’s first solar charging station for solar powered boats in the city Koepenick. The C60 solar catamaran can accommodate up to 60 passengers and will sail on Berlin’s waterways providing tours of the city and cruise trips. The ship offers a tangible sign that emission-free mobility is advancing also for inland shipping. An advantage of solar-powered ships and boats is that they are unaffected by future fuel price increases.
