• Bauer’s buses will be powered by algae and solar panels

Bauer’s Worldwide Transportation of San Francisco is dropping biodiesel for something better. The firm will use algae fuel, a 100% biodiesel concoction made derived from algae instead to power up its buses. Lon Baylor, who’s job it is to find alternate ways to power up the firm’s buses hopes that the first algae powered bus pops up on roads by next year.

Using this will help clear up the buses belly too, without the need of a catalytic converter which is normally used to spew the diesel particulate out of the exhaust. The firm currently uses an 80 percent, 20 percent blend of conventional biodiesel. This clogs fuel filters and heats up the turbo drive. Algae is not the only power source here.
A bunch of solar panels up on the roof will power up the bus’s air conditioning systems when idling. 12 panels like these, fitted up there will help the engine rest keeping the air clean and increasing fuel mileage. We sure need more buses like these around!
