• US workers have spent $2.8 billion only by not switching off their PCs

So many reasons to why the financial downturn happened in the states and one point, though a little irrelevant, but nonetheless important is the results of a report that states the US to be spending up to $2.8 billion wasting energy. That is climbing from $1.7 billion from two years ago! Yeah you would think that all that Inconvenient Truth would do some good, but no! Apparently ‘50% of US workers don’t power down their PCs at night and ironically over 60% of employees feel their company should be doing more to reduce energy consumption.

A report in 1E said that ‘in terms of savings alone, it’s possible to save over £300 million in the UK alone through turning off your PC while in the US it’s nearer $2.8 billion and €918 million in Germany.’ It also cited an example that ‘if all the world’s 1 billion PC’s were powered down for just one night – it would save enough energy to light up New York City’s Empire State Building – inside and out – for more than 30 years’.
