• Solar-powered internet café helps Nairobi log on

  • Nairobi_internet_cafe.jpg
Nairobi, Kenya, is now connected to the world with the internet with the help of solar juice! An internet café powered by solar power has been set up by the Computer Aid International built in union with the Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK). The café is eco-friendly and is basically a pre-built container shipped all the way from London. Boasting six solar panels on the roof that soak in the ever-shining Kenyan sun, the energy generated is used to power up a thin client network and 11 flat screen monitors that use a single Pentium four PC. Also, this café is mobile and can be placed just about anywhere on the globe. It needs no wired connections or mains supply of any kind.

An innovative idea indeed, the solar powered internet café is sure to have a number of replicas around the world soon.
