• Mobile phones with universal chargers to help reduce e-waste

Almost everyone uses a mobile phone now. And with the increase in mobile phone use, a typical household usually has one phone for every family member. That results in a bunch of mobile phone chargers too! In the future though, charging all those mobile phones at home will be a lot simpler, thanks to universal chargers that generously juice up just about any phone. Two years ago, the European Commission asked the mobile phone industry to standardize on a charger that can be used for all phones of different makes. And with that, Nokia, Apple, RIM, Samsung and Sony Ericsson standardized on the micro-USB connectors. A move like this will indeed help reduce a ton of e-waste in the form of old chargers and also pull down the cost of production and decrease the carbon footprint created in manufacturing mobile phone chargers.

We applaud the initiative taken up by the European Commission and the companies that have taken up the introduction of universal charging ports.
