Britain got a whole new pop-up cinema and one that’s inspired by a load of garbage. Called Films on Fridges, the project is the brainchild of 25-year-old American Lindsey Scannapieco, who got the idea from London’s famous Fridge Mountain. Essentially an art installation, the project is an outdoor venture with fridges playing the lead, second lead and crowd role – the screen is surrounded by fridges, the bar is made of fridge parts, and fridge doors are used in seating arrangements.

Emma Rutherford, an architecture student at London Met University was tasked with transforming the vision into reality. The fridges, 150 in total, were sourced through Sims Recycling Solutions who operate a huge fridge recycling operation in Newport. The site of the pop-up cinema is close to the original Fridge Mountain – the exact spot where the mountain stood is now the Olympic aquatic centre, designed by Zaha Hadid. And will be there till the 13 of August. Movie screening includes Rocky, Cool Runnings, Olympic flagwaver Chariots of Fire and, West Indies cricket doco Fire in Babylon.
    Green art just gets better!
