• Dubai plays home to green petrol station

Now petrol stations have never really had a green side to them, taken the fact that they really are the watering holes for those gas guzzlers that in turn cough up and pollute our environment. So, a green petrol station sure seems weird and strange at first, and one such opened its doors in Dubai, UAE recently. The Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) showed off its new green petrol station, with enough environmental upgrades to burn up Dh3.6 million, in an effort to reduce environmental impact. Located in The Meadows, part of Dubai’s Emirates Living residential area, this petrol station uses noise reduction barriers, a system that collects the harmful vapors released from fuels, solar lights, water recycling and lots more. The vapor collecting system itself costs €140,000 (Dh680,000), collecting vapors released as petrol is loaded into the station’s main holding tanks, and later into vehicle fuel tanks.

But then again, to make this one greener, a couple of electric vehicle charging points hooked on to solar panels would do just fine!
