World renowned for his visionary work and foresight, Virgin Group chairman, Sir Richard Branson has decided to keep an eye on all the carbon emissions let out of the shipping industry. The industrialist’s Carbon War Room came up with a website, ShippingEfficiency.org that will rank 60,000 container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, cargo ships, cruise ships, and ferries with efficiency ratings using the United Nations’ IMO methodology for Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), comparing vessels to its peers of the same size and type. Also, the website boasts a calculator using which you can figure out just how much carbon is created by a single ship’s journey.

By labeling ships as clean and dirty, Sir Richard Branson hopes to hit the shipping industry with information on just how much pollution it has been causing.
