The recent oil leak we’ve witnessed is sure an environmental disaster, at an unbelievable scale. Now, earlier reports stated that the oil spilling out of BP amounts to around 35,000-60,000 barrels per day. That’s a horribly large figure. But that really isn’t all. CEO Tony Hayward, in a testimony before Congress today, stated that the amount could possibly be much more, and in the containment system is collecting 20,000 barrels of oil per day. This capacity will be raised to 40,000-53,000 barrels by the end of this month and 60,000-80,000 by mid-July.

The BP CEO indirectly stated so, which also figures why they would need an increased containment facility. These leaks could continue well into august, that’s around a 100 days, meaning that 9,360,000 barrels, or 393,120,000 gallons will end up in the Gulf, taken that around 80,000 gallons overflow everyday. This would result in increasing BP’s liability costs to a whopping $184 billion. In a world with depleting natural resources, tragedies like these sure fuel a scorching flame.
