• SunBoost chip by Intivation makes solar powered phones practical and less expensive

The mobile phone industry is destined for a greener future. This time, Chinese manufacturer Umeox came up with the V206, a low cost ruggedized waterproof phone, powered entirely by energy from the sun. And behind all this, lies a little SunBoost chip by a Dutch company, Intivation that makes the technology practical and cost-effective. Solar powered phones require technology boosters like these, taken that a solar panel, small enough to fit onto a phone cannot produce enough energy to power up the phone.

Usually, the best way out is to use multiple, smaller cells in series to boost the voltage, and can be disadvantageous too. This technology leads to higher manufacturing costs, sub-optimal performance, and defects. A SunBoost amplifies the output voltage, increasing it from the 0.3-0.6V produced to the 1.2-3.7V a battery requires to charge. The SunBoost chip is indeed the answer to solve all our cellular woes, for a cleaner and greener mobile phone industry.
