    Adelaide, Australia, introduces the world’s first 100% solar powered electric bus, the Tindo

    And just when we were beginning to think that nothing gets greener than an electricity-powered mass transit system, along comes a solar powered success story hailing from Adelaide, Australia! Called the Tindo electric bus, this vehicle uses solar energy to juice up its batteries. This is the world’s first 100% solar-powered electric bus and is named after the Aboriginal word for “sun”. The best part of it all is that this bus service is offered to passengers for free!

    BMW unveils the efficient plug-in hybrid X5 eDrive Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show

    Plug-in hybrids are awesome, do you know why? Because these fantastic cars can power up with electricity and fossil fuels! A perfect combination that leads to high energy efficiency and a much cleaner drive, plug-in hybrids are quickly catching on and German automobile manufacturer BMW has realized the same. The company has pulled out the plug-in hybrid X5 eDrive Concept and has shown it off to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This swanky new SUV concept sports a 95-horsepower electric motor and is capable of driving up to 75 miles per hour and 19 miles on electricity alone!

    BMW unveils the i8’s plug-in hybrid production version at the Frankfurt Auto Show

    When the BMW i8 concept was first unleashed, the German automobile manufacturer did manage to capture the imagination of the world. Now, this dream-like car that is probably the closes automobile to the future cars we’ve envisioned, will hit production lines and will soon be made available to car buyers globally! The car was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show amidst much gusto and will go on sale next spring. The BMW i8 is the company’s first-ever plug-in hybrid and weighs in at just 3,285 pounds.

    Yes, the BMW i8 concept took the world’s breath away when the German luxury automobile manufacturer unveiled it a while ago, and now, after a long wait, the company has decided to have this plug-in hybrid supercar hit production lines. Perhaps the most pleasing news off-late, we’ve come across leaked images of the BMW i8, all of which confirm that the car is soon going to be a reality and not just a one-off concept by the manufacturer. The i8 will pack a 1.5-liter, turbocharged engine positioned between the rear axles and front-mounted electric motors.

    Norway sets a world-record for the longest moving gathering of EVs!

    Norway has been known for its love-affair with electric vehicles. The Scandinavian country is one of the forerunners in the adoption of alternative energy to power up modes of transport and many Norwegians now have electric vehicles parked in their garages. The country’s EV-loving folk recently set a world record for the largest-ever gathering of moving electric vehicles. The record was set by 260 electric vehicles, including one very special Nissan Leaf, sliced in half to give onlookers a closer look at the car’s green insides.

Using only green juice, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar boat has been cruising in the azure around the world, drawing its power from the sun and spreading an energy-efficient message. Most recently, the boat visited the land of the Queen, red double-decker buses and black cabs, London!

    Volkswagen shows off the e-Up and e-Golf electric cars

    German automobile colossus, Volkswagen, has taken a step towards the greener side of transportation technology and has launched two energy-efficient automobiles that have caught our attention, the e-Golf and e-Up. The models will premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show and are electric versions of the Volkswagen Golf and Up. Beneath the hood, the e-Up sports a 60-kW motor producing 155 pound-feet of torque. This little electric car darts to the 62 mile mark in 12.4 seconds and boasts a top speed of 81 mph. also, the e-Up can travel a 100 miles on a full belly.

The car is an exceptionally luxurious ride that powers up with electricity and enables users to enjoy the comforts of a creature-comfort-packed sedan, while keep the environment green and rosy. Now, the eco-friendly city of Portland, Oregon, will begin using these electric sedans as taxis. These Model S cars will serve as luxury eco-touring vehicles for Tesla Trips.

    Mercedes-Benz unveils a greener version of its flagship model, the S 500 plug-in hybrid

    Those who understand true luxury know what it means to be seated in a Mercedes-Benz S Class, and not a lot of automobile enthusiasts would argue otherwise. It’s a downright pleasure to note that the German automaker, one of the biggest luxury car manufacturers in the world, has finally given its flagship luxury saloon a green touch. Mercedes-Benz has officially announced the 2014 S 500 plug-in hybrid, the first S Class to go eco-friendly. The car uses an 80-kW electric drive with externally rechargeable battery that powers this saloon for up to 20 miles.

    The world’s fastest electric vehicles prove that clean energy is the way ahead

    One of the reasons electric vehicles haven’t caught on completely yet, is the fact that people think they’re too slow! While that certainly was the case decades ago, times have changed and there are a bunch of EVs out there that leave gas-guzzlers in the dust. To prove this, we’ve been reading up on the world’s fastest electric vehicles, and here’s what we dug out. The fastest electric vehicle today is the JR-Maglev MLX01 train, introduced in Japan. Touching speeds of 361 mph, this jaw-dropping train zips by quicker than you would imagine!
