Though the header appears to be misleading, I meant every word of it. Questions will arise that how can a recycled gun be meant for ardent readers? Read on……The BIG RAYGUN ACTION is recycled out of a hookah, old radio parts and a few parts from Meccano kit. Composite Lounge speaks loud about raising awareness of a problem that most of us overlook. With the introduction of thousands of new products everyday, it is time to bring our attention to the after effects of such non-eco-friendly launches. To address this issue, American designer Stephen Burks has created the Composite Lounge. In an attempt to highlight the impact of the global furnishings industry in the current crisis era, the designer has used the donated furniture by Italian brand Moroso. The installation comprised piles of furniture, two skips furnished with cushions and a bar made from plastic milk crates. He has designed a lounge like set up by turning the furniture on its head and arranging it like discarded “pile-ups” in an abstracted urban setting complete with streetlights, dumpsters and various symbols of detritus. Touted as “one of the world’s most wanted young designers” by Wallpaper magazine, Burks has re-defined the concept of designer furnishing with the Composite Lounge that was created for the leading international furnishing show IMM Cologne.

Every time I sip from a bottle and chuck down a bin, I keep pondering about an alternative use of that plastic bottle. Think beyond using them only as a water bottle or sapling holder. Bags from are not only stylish but they are recycled from such used plastic bottles. About 15-55 bottles are recycled to shape up a bag, depending on the various sizes. Well-designed to suit both the genders, these bags sport a green shade as they save our landfills from the plastic bottles menace. For $300, divas and dudes can pick the bag that suits their style and purpose. Also another noble feature about these eco-friendly bags is that they are “child labor free”.

Floors concreted out with cement, stones, tiles or wood have been ruling the dens of millions. But if you intend to step on a floor that is shaped out of none of the mentioned material then TING has laid out smart green solution. The latest in eco-décor are the floors crafted out of recycled leather belts. For about $75 a square foot, each hand selected belt is hand cleaned with chemical free substance. Later the belts are shaved for uniform width. Finally they are laid carefully onto a reconstituted leather backing applied with water-based glue. Since each tile is carefully designed in-house, the color and patterning on every belt is unique.

We have been covering stuff that is recycled out of paper, plastic, toys or other things like used parts of computers. However here is a working computer peripheral made out of real Scrabble tiles. The most treasured souvenir for any Scrabble fan, this keyboard was specially made for some avid Scrabble players by Datamancer. While most of the keys are real Scrabble tiles, the remaining few were custom-made to render the real look. They were all hand-crafted onto a USB, mechanical-switch keyboard. And since it was intended for a Mac system, the makers used brushed aluminum for the casing. Silver hardware trimmings render a touch of glam while the seam gives a industrialized twist to the word-game keyboard. You are never too old to play with letters or words….even as you work!!

Coca-Cola ringed in 2009 with a green bang by illuminating the Times Square billboard with a wind power. And keeping up with its resolution to lead the green trend, the cola giant has now officially opened the world’s largest bottle-to-bottle recycling plant. Located in South Carolina, the unit is estimated to produce approximately 100 million pounds of food-grade recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic for reuse each year. This is equivalent of producing nearly two billion 20-ounce Coca-Cola bottles. Such a plastic recycling scheme yields financial benefits and also helps to consume less energy than producing bottles with virgin materials. It also helps to reduce waste and greenhouse gases.

And since we have embarked on eco-friendly surfing (on waters and not internet) with the solar panels wetsuits, let me bring your notice to the world’s first recycled surfboard. Joey Santley has partnered with Steve Cox to give shape to the first board that comprises of 65% recycled foam. All they did was sweep up the foam dust from the shaping machine and bays of Mayhem’s factory and mixed it along with some virgin polyurethane to give birth to the recycled surfboard. Teaming up with Just Foam, the duo intend to raise the recycled content to 80%. The only visual difference that a user can note is this recycled board blank has flecks of ground up stringer material in it. But doesn’t that speckled look make it more unique?
