gRennaissance recyclable kitchen range by Italy’s Valcucine

    recyclable_kitchen.jpg
Italy’s Valcucine has come up with a grand idea of a 100 per cent recyclable kitchen. It is called the gRennaissance line of kitchen cabinets in glass and aluminum. This way you don’t have to throw away your kitchen cabinets when it’s old. It will have a new glass base units system called Invitrum and can be assembled and dissembled easily thanks to its mechanical joints. The glass base units are also designed in a way to eliminate double side panels. In short, this system requires fewer materials to used than does in conventional types thus saving energy and resources. Using glass also makes it recyclable with no glues and helps in recycling formaldehyde emissions and resistence to heat and steam.

Canon to recycle copiers to calculators

    canon-calulator.jpg
Now this is an excellent initiative that is being carried out Canon where they take back their junk copiers and recycle them into calculators. It’s not 100% closed loop cycle and the calculators aren’t 100% eco-friendly, but the steps taken by Canon towards being green is really appreciated. Two Models LS-120TSG and the F-502G are made from 100% recycled plastic from the copiers and the former is solar powered too. It’s one thumb up for them and hopefully we can give them two if they bring their other products as well in this list.

H&M to swap polyester with recycled PET bottles

hmrecycle.jpgH&M is a great brand – not just in their clothing range but also in heart. Or so they have proven to be as they are soon to be using recycled PET plastic bottles to make their clothes rather than the conventional polyester. Keeping in mind the receding ice space and the crazy weather conditions across the world owing to global warming could have been one reason to this move. But nonetheless, it’s a welcome change and hope more brands will follow suit.

Re-designed as the Jumbo Hostel, the 747-200 is roomy enough to accommodate 25 rooms. Even the cockpit is converted into a bedroom! Stretched across 6 square meters, each room has space for three bunk beds…..one bed more than the regular twin sharing option. Though it may get a bit crowded for three people in such a small area. Hey but aren’t we all used to being cramped up in aircrafts even when we fly? At least in this airplane-turned-hostel people will be able to stretch out their legs with out irritating co-passengers…errr room-mates. Serving as a flier for Singapore Airlines, Pan Am and a Swedish Airline, this plane now rests are an affordable furnished hostel. For once, people can talk about spending a night in an aircraft without hurting the pockets. So what if it’s stationed on the ground only?

Auto parts recycled in to a High Octane Chess Set

    auto_parts_chess_set_1.jpg
Ah, six months back, I sold my car with out realizing that the aged engine was a treasure chest. At least I could have been richer with a chess set built out of the used auto parts. I am harping about the auto-turned-chess as I am inspired by RevRod crew’s idea of recycling useless engine parts into an intelligent game of war ! How about making your move on the High Octane Chess Set with the pawns made from lifters or rooks recycled out of bolts with a welded castle nut top. The valve spring with a welded rocker arm top plays the role of a Knight and the intake valves is best suited as the Bishop. And lastly the royals……King is nothing but the input shaft of a 4-speed Muncie transmission and the Queen is a part of a high-performance slant-6 racing cam shaft with a spider gear welded on top. Phew! Heavy metals for heavy game!
