Aqualim shower device to erase skyrocketing water bills

    aqualim.jpg
This is such a nice story. A father fed up of crazy water bills all thanks to his teenage daughter who likes to spend more time in the shower than probably on the couch watching MTV put his foot down and did something about it. Something many fathers of teenage shower-loving girls around the globe are going to thank him for. Australian Trevor Murphy has invented the Aqualim, a device that would stop the shower after a certain amount of water had been used. It requires no electrical parts and can be retrofitted to any existing showerhead.

Eco friendly gold from San Diego Jewelry Buyers

    goldbars.jpg
You will think that with all the efforts to go green, people are becoming a tad bit smarter, but they are also getting a little too weird. San Diego Jewelry Buyers has joined hands with award-winning designer Timothy Meier to provide an eco-friendly, green fine jewelry to the city’s residents. So if you are living in the vicinity, what you can do is, take some of the gold you possess, go to the SDJB shop exchange it for cash. The shop then refines the jewelry, mints it into one ounce of ‘eco-friendly’ gold bars which will then be converted into some fine jewelry, which obviously means that the prices will increase considering all the efforts that has gone into it. Selfish world.

    USenergy.jpg

The most important one is that about 60 percent of the new generating capacity added in the US last year revolves around new renewables including solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable energy devices. Travis Bradford who heads up the Prometheus Institute that conducts research noticed this achievement.

Recycled concrete pipe rooms at Das Parkhotel

    dasparkhotel.jpg
Thinking out of the box is a gift rewarded to a select few. Austrian designer Andreas Strauss has proved to be a winner. He came up with this idea of recycling concreted pipes into rooms where people can live in for their summer break or short get-aways! Das Parkhotel, Andreas’ project which he started in 2005, involves a repurposed pipe with a double bed, storage space, light, power, woolly blanket and light cotton sleeping bag. People can use the toilets and showers from the surrounding public space and can stay through the summer from May till October.

Boat made of 16,000 plastic bottles to sail from San Francisco to Sydney

    Plastiki.jpg
Being ambitious is a fine quality but that has to be complemented with being smart else the equation fails. At this moment David de Rothschild in the California is preparing to attempt a 11,000 mile journey in a plastic bottle boat. At this moment between 12,000 and 16,000 two liter soda bottles are being collected to fill in the twin hulls of their ‘Plastiki’ vessel. The name is supposed to be homage to fabled Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl who sailed 4,300 miles across the Pacific on the Kon-Tiki, a raft made from balsa wood in 1947. ‘Each bottle will be pressurized using dry ice powder that will sublimate into carbon dioxide gas.’ If they get these done on time they will start their adventure in April from San Francisco to Sydney. At the end of the trip these bottles will be recycled.

    terravivacomposter.jpg
Here’s a great idea to not have a stinky kitchen garbage – if you are a vegetarian. Ravel Casela has discovered a way to recycle kitchen waste into fodder for the kitchen plants. You cannot add any residues of meat or non-veg stuff. You can use tea waste, coffee grounds and egg shells as well.

How to Go Green By Recycling Your Gadgets

    gadgets_recycling.jpg
Thousands of companies worldwide are rolling out technology and gadgets that promise to make our lives more comfortable. But in the process, we are doing more harm to our environment than good to ourselves. Almost all of us cannot let go off our cell phones, music players, gaming consoles and lappies even for a min. In our attempt to keep in touch with the world and keep ourselves entertained, we are constantly upgrading our electronics. This is taking a toll on our landfills as most of the gadgets hit the e-waste fills before even serving a part of their estimated life span. But WasteCare offers a unique recycling and waste management service that enables waste producers from all industrial and business sectors to manage and report their waste, from collection to recovery regardless of the type, volume or location. And WeeeCare, UK’s favourite Compliance Scheme, aims at encouraging reuse and recycling, and minimizing the negative environmental aspects of disposal. Since Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations became effective the waste industry has seen an increase in the amount and variety of electrical waste being collected. WasteCare also has a purpose built re-processing facility for computer and VDU equipment for appropriate Computer Recycling & Disposal.
