    Armchair made of discarded keyboards

    lounge_chair_1.jpg
This armchair may make you think twice before sitting on it as its normal for us to freak out when the keyboard is thrown about in the fear of losing a key. Designers Dante Bonuccelli and Lamm made of computer keys, which if they flex, might add a heretofore unseen level of comfort from keys and is called Texte-ile. This was created for the UMUL 2009 project – which is Use More, Use Less.

Eco composter for a healthier and greener garden

    composter.jpg
Here is an eco-composter. A composter is an object used for composting. Composting is the natural speeding process where ‘microorganisms break down complex organic matter into simple, nutritious topsoil’. It is an old fashioned style object that is coming back into use as the fears of global warming rises. The eco-composter tumbler has a capacity of 71 gallons and is made of 100 per cent recycled materials. The tumbler breaks down fresh material in the shortest amount of time to create rich black soil. The spherical shape and special base allows the object to rotate easily in any direction for easy mixing. A patented internal air tube system allows an open flow of air from the outside, directly into the center of the composting material. It can also be used in all weather conditions.

Recycle gadgets for a cleaner environment

    electronics-recycling.jpg
Most of us are aware of the 3Rs (Reduce, Recycle and Reuse) but how many of us actually put this green motto in practice? When it comes to gadgets, being environmentally responsible isn’t the norm. And it’s not an easy job too, especially disassembling electronics for recycling. Also it’s confusing for consumers who intend to put an end to their gadgets responsibly to reach the correct source. Recycling is very important because not everything we use breaks down and will just sit in a landfill for the next thousand years. WasteCare offers a unique recycling and waste management service that enables waste producers from all industrial and business sectors to manage and report their waste, from collection to recovery regardless of the type, volume or location. And WEEE Compliance Scheme, UK’s favourite Compliance Scheme, aims at encouraging reuse and recycling too. Since Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations became effective the waste industry has seen an increase in the amount and variety of electrical waste being collected. WasteCare also has a purpose built re-processing facility for computer and VDU equipment for appropriate Computer Recycling & Disposal.

Eco-friendly wine tasting bar from Newton Vineyard

    newtontastingbar.jpg
Care to sip wine off an eco-friendly wine tasting bar? If you are nodding your head in affirmation then take a look at U.K. designer Claire Danthois’ creation. In collaboration with Newton Vineyard, Claire has crafted a six foot bar out of 100% reclaimed materials. The list of green raw materials include wood from barrels once used to age Newton’s Icon Label wines, 300 year-old oak barrels acquired from a wine merchant in England and also glass shelves and steel cables from an architectural site. Priced at a whopping $20,000, only five such green wine tasting bars are made. While one of them will be stationed at Newton Vineyard estate, the others will show up at series of Newton “Unfiltered” events in 2009 in New York City, London and Tokyo. Of these one will go under the hammer for a green cause. 100% of the proceeds will go to Global Green USA, a non-profit dedicated to curtailing global climate change through the creation of green buildings and communities.

Sloan AQUS Greywater System to help recycle bathroom water

    sloanaqus-ed03.jpg
The most annoying and displeasure creating chore in the house is plumbing especially when it comes to the toilets. This company called Sloan Valve Company has come up with the Sloan AQUS Greywater System for the bathroom that is easy to install and works with the existing fixtures. What it does is filters the water that goes down the sink drain and then uses it to flush the toilet hence saving up to 5,000 gallons of potable water each year. How cool is that!

    Recycling gadgets responsibly

    ewaste.jpg
In this day and age, newer gadgets and technology keep mushrooming every day to make our lives easy. However, such a rising e-trend has given rise to grave situation. Electronic waste, popularly known as ‘e-waste’encompasses ever growing range of obsolete electronic devices such as computers and its peripherals, TVs & display devices, telecommunication devices such as cellular phones, audio and video devices besides refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and microwave ovens. The list is endless and so are the troubles that come along with it. This is taking a toll on our landfills as most of the gadgets hit the e-waste fills before even serving a part of their estimated life span. As residents of this planet we need to take the responsibility of managing our waste in appropriate manner. By encouraging the three Rs, that is ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, we can minimize the negative environmental aspects of disposal. WasteCare offers a unique recycling and waste management service that enables waste producers from all industrial and business sectors to manage and report their waste, from collection to recovery regardless of the type, volume or location. And WeeeCare, UK’s favourite Compliance Scheme, aims at encouraging reuse and recycling too. Recycling Aircrafts – A green take off from France

As we jet set across the globe, most of us are ignorant about one distressing fact – The correct disposal of old, outdated aircrafts. While some of these old aircrafts are used for ground training purposes, many are left to rust next to the runways of airports in underdeveloped countries. In an effort to address this problem, organizations like Bartin Aero Recycling specialize in recycling old airplanes for scrap. Located at Châteauroux-Déols airport, 250 kilometers, or 155 miles, south of Paris, it is one of the two sites of its type in the world. Folks working for Bartin Aero Recycling clear the interiors and rips off the seats, overhead luggage compartments and black boxes too. Such aircrafts provide an absolute source of the valuable metal, aluminum. It is estimated that about 85% of an aircraft and up to 75% of its engines can be recycled. This scrapped aluminum is re-used to manufacture automobile parts including wheels and transmissions and also to make beverage cans. Watch out as the wing is chopped off and a giant cutter cuts through the aircraft body.

Pamela Anderson walks the ramp for Richie Rich’s eco-friendly line Muse

    pamela.jpg
Yup, it has finally reached. As is typical in any case of a trend, now the go-green has seeped into the lap of fame. Oddly though a very un-typical entity has been chosen to promote the message – Pamela Anderson. Apparently she has agreed to get into line with Richie Rich’s new eco-friendly range called Muse. This will be launched in summer and will feature casual yet eco-friendly garments. Aside from being ‘friends forever’ and she having been an ‘inspiration’ for him, he is also the guy who designed her wedding dress, which wouldn’t have taken much time considering who its for.

    spa shower.jpg
It is so often these days that we hear about the various water shortages that the earth is going to face very soon because of the damage that us irresponsible humans have caused to this planet. This is when certain people come up with bright ideas to find a cure in as small a way as they can to help save the situation. Here is a concept that is very feasible. It’s a personal shower that uses recycled water and distributes it to provide a massage. And it just uses 20 liters of water.
