Recycled Coffee tables from Elise Series are elegantly authentic

    nine-stories-elsie-main.jpg
One man’s trash is another man’s asset…….and it is profitable too. Not only to the person or the company who makes money out of it but also for our environment. Nine Stories Furniture Co. have recycled the metal waste into a series of elegantly designed furniture. Instead of finding its way to landfills, tons of metal scrap is reused to frame up eco-friendly Elise Series. The tables seen are built from 70% reclaimed automotive sheet metal. It is known that of panels are the easiest to make use of. However such a green piece of furniture is not meant for every common man’s den as the starting price is $1,800. But folks with deep pockets and deeper love for our planet can lay their cup of coffee on this recycled table from Elise Series.

Recycled urine for drinking on spacecrafts approved

nasa.jpg In March there was a bit of disturbing news from space. No, there hasn’t been an alien attack and there isn’t going to be a war of the worlds, but NASA got a bit of credit crunch hit them as well and decided to recycle urine to drinkable water onboard the space craft. It would be the craft’s Urine Processing Assembly. So now, what they, the Expedition 19 astronaut crew aboard the International Space Station, sent some of these recycled urine water to earth to see if this indeed works well for the thirsty astronaut and guess what? It is supposed to be purer than some water being used on earth!

Reynolds introduces 100% recycled aluminum foil

    reynolds_recycled_foil.jpg
Reynolds Consumer Products is sendinf a message this Earth Day by launching their 100% Recycled Aluminum Wrap. Apparently this was introduced because it is very wasteful to produce virgin aluminum. The new range will be made exclusively out of recycled materials and will be as strong and durable as the traditional foil. And the best thing about this product is that it doesn’t come at a costlier price. It is almost the same price as the older version at $2.99 for 50 sq. ft. box.

Scout boys gear up for a green race in recycled derby cars

    derby_car_race.jpg
It is never too early to instill green values. And you can read about a noteworthy example to prove the same. Members of Cub Scout packs 294 and 261 from St. Clair have modeled out full size carts by recycling used materials for their annual Pinewood Derby. Patrick Martin, leader of Cub Scout Pack 261, believes that such an act will help to educate boys about an important green fact – ‘though something may have come to the end of its useful life in one aspect, it may be helpful in another aspect. So think twice before you throw something away’. Joseph Redlawski, 8, teamed with his brother, Luke, to shape up a car that included lots of recycled items. While the front wheels were from a wagon, the rears ones were from a golf cart. The wooden frame came from a friend’s dismantled barn. Also the hand brake was picked up from the derby car his brother built last year. Meant for a fun-filled race, kids had a blast crashing these cars while driving. Almost all the carts had safety belts, and Scouts wore helmets while racing. Racing up in recycled cars can add up to green fun!

Butterfly wing vertical farm concept for New York City

    vincent dragonfly.jpg
I don’t get it. People have been coming up with such strange ideas for New York city, I can’t seem to wonder where is the space for all this! There was news sometime ago regarding a settlement in air and now here is a vertical farm based on the wings of a butterfly. Yes, literally that. Belgian based Vincent Callebaut Architectures has come up with a dragonfly vertical farm concept in the city located along the east river at the south edge of Rooselvelt Island in New York city. The tower will apparently be self sufficient in water, energy and bio fertilizing. It will have 132 floors and 600 vertical meters and will be able to accommodate 28 different agricultural fields for the production of fruit, vegetables, grains, meat and dairy.

    sony-vaio_cardboard_paper_cover.jpg
Grzegorz Kozakiewicz has done an extensive do-it-yourself project where he has cut individual pieces of recycled cardboard paper to cover each and every key surface of his laptop. He has put piece by piece for every key and has even gone far by recreating the Vaio Logo and also by creating functional vents to keep his cardboard covered laptop in good working condition. He must have really spent some good time on this!

1GB USB stick made of recycled cardboard

    1gb_USB_stick.jpg
People are these days more attached to a USB stick than they are of a gold plated luck charm. So many designs and so many options of a small little device like the USB, it’s almost amusing. But now since the in thing is to go green and be more aware of your environment and atmosphere and your earth, some wise guy namely Colin Garceau-Tremblay has come up with a cardboard 1GB USB stick. Specialty is that the cardboard is recycled. The card includes five sticks to be detachable by cracking them on the doted line. It’s a wise thought but honestly, who would put such a thing to actual use? It is so small that you would think it was waste and throw it away until you are one of those extremely clean and tidy ones and has no reputation of having anything brown at home save new green inventions.

    stanker1.jpg
A must-have for any eco-den, Koman-Ilé is nothing but a rocking eco-friendly piece of furniture. The word rocking was intentionally written as it aptly describes this rocking chair. French designer Francois Royer has shaped this orange colored chair out of a discarded industrial barrel. Fitting it with a smoked bamboo seat it stands firmly on four rubber feet. Wonder how it will rock! For 650 € ($870), as of yet it is out of stock on Stanker. But if you are keen, then it could be your next DIY project for sure.

Envirobank’s vending machines give ‘cash for cans’ to promote recycling

vending_machines.jpg This vending machine is a special one. Instead of giving you something to drink it will request you to give back the can so that it can be recycled. The Envirobank is a reverse vending machine which gives cash for cans. It can hold up to 3000 containers and accept PET, HDPE and PVC plastic, brown, clear and green glass and aluminum cans. When you give back these cans, you will get credits for discount shopping. Which of course means that these will be present in shopping malls, groceries and other retail areas. Plans are on, it will soon be out. Envirobank also says that their machines cut CO2 emissions, reduces waste disposal and collection costs and even provide advertising and fund raising opportunities.

Pavilion made of reclaimed kitchen sinks

    ktichen-sink-building.jpg
Who says that kitchen sinks are the least important part in a household? Not only does it give you a clean dish to eat, cook and serve on, it has also got a few other uses, so proved by 2012 Architechten in cooperation with Jeanne van Heeswijks of Jeanneworks. It’s a reclaimed pavilion entirely made of kitchen sinks. The Sustainable Sky Box has risen up as a stainless steel castle tower and serves as a multi-purpose space for cultural activities. Reclaimed kitchen sinks serve as the pavilion’s principle facade elements, which are held together with scaffolding, wire and waterproof multiplex boards.
