US Military decides to cut fuel and go green

    green_us_military.jpg
Not only civilians but the military also worries about their fuel consumption event though warfare is more of their policy than peace and even though bombshells and rockets don’t cause any sort of pollution. According to a research American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are using more fuel each day than in any other war in US history. A dome shelter at Fort Irwin in the Mojave Desert draws power from solar panels and a wind turbine to save fuel. Inside a futuristic-looking dome that rises from the sandy wasteland of the high Mojave Desert, soldiers in plywood cubicles work at computers powered by solar panels and a towering wind turbine. Plug-in cars shuttle the troops across the vast expanses here at Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County. At night, tents lined with insulating foam provide a cool retreat at the end of a 100-degree day.

Tourists inspire low cost, energy producing Prayer Wheel Energy Generator

    Taikkun.jpg
Old is gold and who can argue with so many stories of using the age old techniques, recycling them to work in the current living conditions and creating a useful alternative to wasting energy. Tibetan designer Taikkun Li is using tourists as an energy source for his Prayer Wheel Energy Generator, envisioned for Tibet. This is how it works – when tourists spin a multitude of prayer wheels, the positive energy can be harvested along Tibetan streets, turned into electricity, and used to provide evening lighting along those streets and inside the adjacent homes.

New eco-friendly ice to fight fire

    fire-n-ice.jpg
When the experts speak, it’s hard to imagine there can be anything wrong. As is proven in the case of this new research where scientist Toshihisa Ueda and his colleagues in Japan have reported the development of a new type of ice that may provide a more efficient, environment-friendly method for putting out fires, including out-of control blazes that destroy homes and forests. Keeping in mind the old theory that firefighters have used water and carbon dioxide (CO2) as fire extinguishing agents for decades, they worked on seeing if carbon dioxide hydrates, frozen crystals made of water and CO2 bonded together, may serve as promising fire-suppressing materials.

Sky Terra super skyscrapers for more green and air

    skyscraper.jpg
Haven’t we all watched those alien looking creations and structures where people of the future live in where the atmosphere and air is human controlled since the outside world has succumbed to global warming? Well now San Francisco-based designer Joanna Borek-Clement has envisioned a network of interconnected towers shaped like a neuron called the Sky-Terra skyscrapers It provides a whole new city layer – one covered in public parks, amphitheaters, fields, and public pools and bathhouses and all much above the already sky-kissing skyscrapers. This was an entry in the 2009 eVolo Skyscraper competition and city of cosideration was Tokyo. Sky-Terra towers consist of a narrow base with a deep and strong foundation. The towers rise up to 1,600 ft and expand out until they reach the flat top plaza layer.
