Solar powered Blister Radio is still a green concept

    blister-radio.jpg
Here is a green concept. If you are one of those who still can’t without radios, go for a greener option, when and if it gets launched that is. It is called the Blister Radio. It is made up of PLA that is polylactic acid, which is a linear aliphatic polyester material – which in turn is sourced from renewable products like cornstarch and sugar cane. So this is totally eco-friendly and you don’t have to even worry about looking the odd man out in holding a radio still as it looks pretty jazzy too.

Rechargeable solar batteries by Knut Karlsen

    solar-battery.jpg
To recharge batteries, we normally use another device to do it. But Knut Karlsen thought of an idea of recharging batteries without the charger. He created solar cell. The solar cell is a battery that can be recharged using solar power. The batteries have solar panels integrated into it that recharges continuously if it is placed outdoors. The prototype cells do not have a definite charging time yet but if it will be available in the market, people will definitely patronize it especially those who would want to give their bit of share in conserving the planet.

First ever lithium-ion battery for Mercedes S 400 BlueHYBRID

    bluehybrid.jpg
It is all about the environment now. Mercedes on their part is releasing their first passenger car model with a hybrid drive system this summer. The Mercedes S 400 BlueHYBRID, the first car to have a patented integration of a lithium-ion battery, will have a modified V6 engine and a compact hybrid module and is claimed to have the lowest CO2 emissions in its performance class, 190grams per kilometer. This also has a start/stop function which switches the engine off when the car is at standstill and when it has to move again the electric motor restarts the main power unit. The person driving the car can also monitor the status of the hybrid drive system.

Eco-friendly RITI Printer prints with coffee and tea – Green Gadgets Design Competition

    RITI_eco_printer.jpg
For all those folks who are constantly hitting the ctrl P to keep printing their work docs via ink-based printers, here is a green alternative. Though still a concept, Korean designer Joen Hwan Ju’s RITI Printer is designed to feed on used coffee ground or tea dregs to imprint the pages. So every time the user sips on his/her cuppa coffee or tea, the residue has to be fed to this eco-friendly printer. Place it in the ink case on the top and insert the paper in the center. Then manually moving the case in both directions, left and right, will render images or text on the paper. Eliminating the need of chemical based inks and grid-connectivity, this herbal-ink based printer will also keep the docs smelling good with coffee or tea aroma. Now that sounds…..or rather smell good!

Mitsubishi sets new green record with World’s Highest Conversion Efficiency Rate

Mitsubishi-Electric-logo.jpg Some fresh breaking green news from the land of rising sun! Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has just declared that it has improved its world’s highest conversion efficiency rate for a 150 x 150 millimeter practical-size multi-crystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) cell by 0.3 points. That pushes the 18.6 percent to a new world record of 18.9 percent. Constantly working on improving their photoelectric conversion efficiency rate, the company has developed this new method to efficiently absorb infrared rays in sunlight, thus setting a bench mark of this new world record. The newly developed PV cell has a rear-surface reflection structure, which reflects infrared rays that reaches its rear surface to allow the cell to absorb more light. This has helped to improve efficiency in utilizing infrared rays by 26 percent compared to the company’s previous PV cells. Adopting the same low-reflective honeycomb-textured structure, it assists in reducing the amount of light reflected from their front surface and thus absorb more sunlight into the cells.
