The CitySpeed Turbine can generate energy from wind in New York’s transit tunnels

The GE Power Your Home Ecoimagination Challenge sure is seeing some pretty neck-to-neck competition, with entries required to design a green future home. Out of all these, one entry sure sparked our interest, transit tunnels that generate energy! An idea submitted by Alessandra Rapaccini and Giacomo Sanna, the CitySpeed Turbine give transit tunnels the added advantage of generating energy from wind, in turn helping power cities with green renewable energy! Approximately 202,000 cars pass through the Lincoln and Holland tunnels alone on a regular basis.

Now maybe this design isn’t so much part of the competition’s theme. It is one of the better and more practical designs out there though!
