• Pocono Raceway goes solar powered with 40,000 photovoltaic modules

Sports and the sun haven’t had a lot to do with each other, until now. The power of the sun being poured out on the earth will now be used to power up a raceway, the Pocono Raceway, which will be the world’s largest solar powered sports facility. A NASCAR track in Long Pond PA, the Pocono Raceway is a 2.5 mile long race track that’s large enough to be visible from outer space. And to power this one up, 40,000 photovoltaic modules soaking in the sun, will work hard till the sweat breaks on their brows. These photovoltaic modules will produce a whopping 72 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy over the next 20 years that will help offset 3,100 Metric Tons of carbon dioxide annually, generating enough energy to power up an additional 1,000 homes, besides the Raceway!

The fact that green concepts and ideas like these are slowly cropping up in every field today sure keeps us hoping for a greener future.
