Sunlight penetrates into every corner of this planet but are we optimizing this energy to the fullest? At least folks at Movement Climbing and Fitness center intend to tap this free clean energy to power up their gym. Touted to be the world’s first solar-powered climbing gym, it is scheduled to throw its doors open next month in Boulder. A 100-kilowatt photovoltaic array will energize the climbing gym while the 90-square-foot evacuated tube solar thermal system will heat up the water. When fully operational, such a eco-friendly system will provide Movement with all of its energy needs. Designed by a designed by Jim Logan Architects, a renowned zero-energy design firm, the gym is fitted with smart-lighting system. A heat exchanger will utilize outside air to cool or warm the interior. And to monitor the energy, the gym will make use of Lightgauge, a web-based data monitoring system. Such a system will display the electrical production versus consumption on a monitor at the entrance of the building.

Teaming up with Lighthouse Solar, the Movement Climbing + Fitness will power up with clean energy when the sun shines.
