• Italian greenhouse produces food and electricity too

A greenhouse producing food as well as electricity is what the renewable energy company Solar ReFeel and Solyndra together cam up with. Using an integrated photovoltaic system, the greenhouse building will produce electricity. Tests are currently being carried out at a facility owned by Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicraft and Agriculture of Savona, Italy.

This project will test crop growth in greenhouses fitted with photovoltaics by leading solar technology company, Solyndra. These cells, unlike conventional photovoltaics, are cylindrical. This allows the light to pass through and into the greenhouse. This will enable the greenhouse to work as a mini power station. A great way to create food and electricity at the same time. Hopefully more greenhouses like this show up, self sufficient with power produced by their own building structures.
