A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Officials of the Clinton Foundation and the Government of India for the creation of a solar park that will generate more than 5,0000 mega watts of electricity. This project is one of the 40 schemes aimed at transforming the state into the world’s largest solar energy hub. The state government of Gujarat has signed deals with 40 energy companies where each of them plan to generate anywhere between 5 and 50 mega watts of power. The government has already allocated 1500 hectares of land for the project and will also offer financial incentives for companies which will start generating electricity before December 2010.

The Gujarat plans will become a major boost to the government’s hopes to make solar electricity generation financially competitive with electricity generated from coal-powered plants. The Energy Minister of India is also considering other locations for their solar park.
