• Biobutanol to make its way in automobiles for a greener drive

  • Biobutanol.jpg Biobutanol is set make a comeback in our automobiles and said to work better than ethanol. In the past, Biobutanol was used in Japanese aircraft during World War II. This fuel is derived from plant material and not fossil fuels. It s derived form maple, birch and beech tree chips. Butyl alcohol- Butanol is far more superior to ethanol with respect to the chemical composition and higher energy content. Unlike ethanol, it is also easier to transport butanol as it can easily go through pipelines. This fuel is said to produce 50% less greenhouse gas emissions as compared to gasoline.

DuPont and BP are aiming to commercially produce biobutanol by the year 2011 and have set up a demonstration-scale plant in Britain for the same. They have even obtained a regulatory approval from the European Commission after taking over an American biobutanol maker. So ones DuPont and BP starts commercially producing this fuel, we all can be rest assured of a greener and eco-friendly drive.
