• Race-cars could use carbon fiber reinforced bodies as batteries

  • Lola-thumb-550xauto-83701.jpgRacing four wheelers around a track takes more than just a bunch of contraptions on wheels and gas roaring around. These cars sport serious technology that you wouldn’t find in that station wagon of yours. Now, race cars could get even more technologically-advanced and somewhat greener too! British defense firm BAE System is developing structural batteries that use carbon fiber and glass reinforced plastics used in the car’s body as batteries. Instead of packing a whole battery system, race cars of the future could pretty much store energy in their bodies! This could also help in extending ranges of electric cars, both on race tracks, and those parked in our driveways if all goes well. A technological breakthrough that could change the automobile industry for the greener good, the system is now being tested on a Lola-Drayson B12/69EV Le Mans car.
