• Denver Zoo powers up Tuk Tuk with panda poop!

  • We’ve come across poop-powered vehicles before, including golf carts and bikes that power up on human and animal waste. Giving animal poop a reason to be, the Denver Zoo just pulled the veil off a fantastic Tuk Tuk that powers up with waste. Using panda poop, the Zoo managed to power up this 20-year-old Tuk Tuk. And no, the panda poop isn’t directly stuffed into the fuel tank of this ancient rickshaw. Instead, the zoo collects the poop, makes gasified pellets out of it and subjects the pellets to high-heat and no-oxygen which ultimately leads to the emission of syngas.

This is then burned to generate electricity, which in turn is used to power up the Tuk Tuk’s electric motor! Indirectly, the Tuk Tuk powers up with animal poop and the Denver Zoo seems to have stumbled across a perfect way to reuse the waste produced by its inmates.
