Ever wondered just how much energy that computer you’re currently sitting in front of consumes? Here’s a way to figure out just that! Developed by Egretcom Co Ltd, this energy measurement device will release sometime in January 2011 in Japan. You can hook this one up to your home electric appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, office automation equipment while it measures the data through the power line. The data collected can then be taken into account using dedicated software on the PC. Using HD-PLC technology, this one contains a power line communication module and requires the appliance’s plug to be connected to it. Data is transmitted using Wavelet OFDM modulation.

Using a frequency of 2-30MHz, the device, which we hope is given a name soon, is indeed a great way to keep check on your energy usage.
