We’ve had a look at a bunch of hybrid vehicles here before. Most of these stick to being fuel-efficient urban cars, without paying too much heed to sprinting away in the horizon. This time though, we stumbled across a Guinness World Record holder, from the stables of Infiniti, the M35h hybrid saloon. The world’s fastest accelerating full-hybrid, this car uses a petrol-electric drive and covered a distance of 400m in an average time of 13.9031 seconds! Packing a high-revving petrol V6 engine and a 68PS (50kW) electric motor, this one emits just 162g/km of CO2 and touches the 62mph mark in just 5.5 seconds!

Aviation today requires a serious punch of energy efficiency, and airplane –makers and operators around the globe are striving hard to erase off carbon footprints with the help of technology available off market shelves today. In the future, designer William Brown envisions an airplane like none other ever seen before, inspired by the Bar Tailed Godwit bird, one known to fly record breaking distances non-stop. Called the Lockheed Stratoliner, this aircraft uses oversized wings and four Cryogenic Hydrogen Turbofan engines that enable it to fly to higher altitudes, and well, stay there for long!

After having successfully had the world with jaws dropped open with the McLaren F1 super car, car designer Gordon Murray has now shifted his attention to greener sports cars. To start of with, the designer unveiled this beauty, christened the TEEWAVE AR1. Complete with all the carbon fiber you could digest, and of course, an electric engine that pushes the car to the 62mph mark in just 11.4 seconds, pretty decent for an electric, the car sports a 114 miles range and takes about 6 hours to charge up. Weighing in at 850 kilograms, this roadster measures 13 feet in length and 5.7 feet wide; small and green enough to drive around the city without punching holes in the ozone.

Sauter Carbon Offset Design has been known as a green yachting brand but they seem to have their hearts set on luxury as well. They are now out with what they call the “Fastest and Greenest Superyacht” ever. It boasts of “Unlimited Zero Carbon” cruising speeds of 14 knots and can manage top speeds of 28 knots. The 66-meter Emax E-Volution is built by Ned Ship and is powered by solar hybrid power sources, that include 2MWs of renewable energy that comes from wind, sun, waves ¤ts.

Baia recently unveiled a true-to-heart green vessel called the Baia Yacht, available in 26.6 and 29.6 sizes. With speeds of over 22 Knots, these vessels sport hybrid propulsion systems and also use exhaust systems with diesel particular filters that keep the waters clean of emissions to quite a commendable extent. Using diesel as well as electric engines to power up and surf through the waves, these yachts use high-performance and low-consumption POD or IPS systems.

Volkswagen seems to have pushed up development on its “Up!” platform, and the bunch of cars the German automaker brought along to the Frankfurt Auto Show only goes to prove just that! With cars based on the highly versatile platform, Volkswagen unveiled the Buggy Up!, Up! Azzurra, Cross Up!, GT Up!, Eco Up! and e-Up! The Eco Up! and the e-Up! did catch our fancy the most however, given that the pair sticks to cleaner fuels and greener technology than the rest. The e-Up! sports an 18 kWh battery pack, giving it an 80 miles on a single charge. The Eco Up! lacks an electric engine, but chucks a gasoline drinking one for natural gas and boasts a fuel consumption of just 2.5kg/100km!

Mercedes Benz recently threw the veil of its all new Concept B-Class E-Cell Plus at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, a car that assures a green and comfortable drive, with the technology from the Mercedes stables under its hood. With a total range of up to 600 kilometers and a range of up to 100 kilometers when in all-electric, local emission-free mode. Also, don’t expect this one to sprint forwards too fast, with the car going from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 11 seconds, with a top speed of 150kmph, just enough for the average city traveler.

There are cars, and there are cars that simply have eyeballs stuck on them as they sail through the streets. Take this concept by Audi for one. Probably destined to remain a concept for all its life, the Audi Urban uses a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body and two e-tron electric motors and sports two seats, one for the driver and the other for his side-kick. Weighing in at just about 480 kilograms, the Audi urban concept is reminiscent of a sports racer, and seems to be a blend of a roadster and a city car!
