• UAE solar power capable of outdoing US and Europe

  • camel_energy_1.jpg The solar power in UAE has the capability of outdoing US and European targets of producing 20 to 30 percent of renewable energy by 2020. This is mainly because of the large revenues from high oil prices, trade and tourism and real estate. The Middle East’s first 10 megawatt solar park is in Masdar City in Abu Dhabi and it is now connected to the Abu Dhabi’s electrical grid. Half of the solar park’s 87,000 photovoltaic panels are thin film variety supplied by US-based First Solar and the other half are crystalline panels manufacture by China’s Suntech. This solar park will provide 17,500 megawatt hours of renewable energy each year to Masdar City.

Experts worldwide have agreed that sunshine and space are UAE’s biggest assets in terms of developing solar power as renewable energy because sunshine is abundantly available as well as oil. However this should be developed as a mix of remote desert solar farms and rooftop and façade installations on residences and businesses that will contribute to the overall production of solar energy.
