Fear no longer of the darkened Crystal Cave, for the sun will soon provide for the energy required to light it up! Generous as always, the sun has accepted the proposal to light up the cave from this Sunday. Earlier, the cave at Sequoia National Park was illuminated with incandescent lights, powered by a propane generator. Outdoing the propane generator, the cave will use an array of solar panels hooked up to batteries to power up the LED lights in the cave for illumination.

These lights won’t be as bright as the old incandescent ones, helping insects, spiders, millipedes, crayfish and similar arthropods thrive in the cave, 30 species of which have been stumbled upon by researches in Sequoia’s 275 caves. Going dimmer with LEDs also helps prevent algae growing on the walls, giving it a sickly green tinge. The environment conscious are sure to love the Crystal Cave now, more than ever.
