• Energy generating water buoy readied for use off Scottish coast

  • 01.JPGThe buoys we’re so used to will now do a lot more than just bobbing with the waves and warning ships of obstacles ahead. Ocean Power Technologies’ buoy generates energy too! Here’s how. The PB150 PowerBuoy as it is referred to, stands 150 feet from top to bottom and can generate up to 150 kilowatts of power with waves between 4.9 feet and 22.9 feet high! With most of it lying below the water surface, the PB150 will be deployed 33 miles off the coast of Scotland later this year. And using a bunch of its clones, plans are currently being drawn up to kick off a full-fledged 1.5 megawatt wave energy farm off the Oregon coast soon.
